As IoT devices expand into outdoor and extreme environments, the reliability of printed circuit boards (PCBs) is facing unprecedented challenges. Moisture, salt spray, dust, and severe temperature fluctuations are "invisible killers" that can cause short circuits or corrosion in electronic components. Traditional protective methods often struggle to balance flexibility with a high level of protection. In response, a new generation of high-performance silicone conformal coating has emerged. Not only does it easily help PCBs achieve IP67-level waterproofing and moisture resistance, but through optimized molecular structure, it also delivers a dramatic increase in adhesion, providing a rugged yet flexible defense line for precision electronic circuits.
This upgraded silicone coating material achieves comprehensive breakthroughs in technical specifications. After curing, it forms a tough, elastic protective film with high dielectric strength (typically ≥25 kV/mm) and high volume resistivity, effectively preventing current leakage and short circuits. In terms of protective performance, it effectively blocks moisture and corrosive gases, passes rigorous salt spray tests and double-85 (85°C/85% RH)湿热 aging tests, and exhibits extremely low water absorption (<0.5%). Most critically, by incorporating special adhesion-promoting primers or modified polymer chains, the material achieves more than a 2x increase in adhesion to FR4 substrates, metal solder pads, and various components, solving the common industry problem of silicone coating delamination. Additionally, it remains flexible from -50°C to 200°C, with excellent resistance to thermal shock.
In practical applications, this product is an ideal protector for harsh outdoor environments. It is widely used in battery management systems (BMS) and electronic control units (ECU) of new energy vehicles, effectively withstanding high temperatures and vibration inside engine compartments. In outdoor LED displays, photovoltaic inverters, and 5G base station RF modules, it resists long-term UV aging and rain erosion, ensuring stable equipment operation under IP67 protection. Furthermore, for medical electronic devices and industrial control motherboards, its solvent-free, low-stress protective layer ensures long-term reliability of sensitive components under complex operating conditions.
The processing advantages of this silicone coating lie in its excellent application flexibility and repairability. It supports spraying, brushing, dipping, and selective coating, with outstanding leveling properties to achieve uniform coverage over complex PCB surfaces without bubbles or sagging. Compared to rigid materials like epoxy resin, the flexible nature of the silicone coating absorbs mechanical vibration and thermal stress, protecting fragile solder joints. Notably, despite its greatly improved adhesion, the coating can still be easily removed using specialized solvents or heat when rework is required, significantly reducing the difficulty and cost of after-sales maintenance.
