From 5G to Healthcare: The Application Boundaries of Liquid Silicone Rubber Are Expanding

The liquid silicone rubber (LSR) market has maintained steady growth in recent years. Driving this growth is not only sustained demand from traditional industrial sectors but also the rapid emergence of new application scenarios. From 5G communications to wearable devices, from new energy to healthcare, the application boundaries of LSR are being continuously broadened.

In the 5G sector, high-frequency antennas and RF modules impose stricter requirements on dielectric properties and dimensional stability. LSR potting compounds, with their low dielectric loss and excellent thermal management characteristics, are becoming the preferred material for related components.

In the wearable device sector, conformal silicone coatings, owing to their soft, skin-friendly, and breathable properties, are being used for circuit protection in smartwatches and health monitoring devices, balancing functionality with wearing comfort.

At the same time, battery pack sealing imposes stricter requirements on material weatherability and long-term reliability.

In the healthcare sector, the application of biocompatible silicone in catheters, seals, and other medical devices is steadily advancing, with improving regulations and standards providing clearer pathways for this direction.

From a technology trend perspective, low-VOC environmental friendliness, high thermal conductivity, and rapid curing (second-level curing) are currently the main directions in LSR R&D. For product engineers, early awareness of these trends facilitates better material selection during the product design phase.
