In new energy vehicles, high-power charging piles, and high- and low-voltage power transmission and distribution equipment, core components such as electronic control systems, battery packs, and inverters operate continuously under harsh conditions of high temperature, high humidity, and intense vibration. These critical devices impose extremely stringent requirements on thermal management, insulation protection, and shock and vibration damping. High-quality potting compounds, with their outstanding comprehensive performance, are becoming core materials for building safety barriers in new energy and power systems.
Potting compounds serve not only basic sealing and waterproofing functions but also undertake critical roles in thermal management and structural protection. By incorporating specialized thermally conductive fillers into the silicone matrix, high-quality potting compounds efficiently transfer waste heat from electronic components to the heat dissipation housing, preventing performance degradation caused by localized overheating. At the same time, the elastomer formed after curing effectively absorbs external vibration and impact, compensates for differential thermal expansion between dissimilar materials, and avoids imposing mechanical stress on precision assemblies. Furthermore, to meet the specific requirements of the new energy sector, next-generation potting compounds also feature low compression set, resistance to electrolyte corrosion, and halogen-free flame retardancy, further enhancing system safety.
Over the service life of new energy equipment, which can extend beyond a decade, the long-term reliability of potting compounds is critical. Inferior materials are prone to oil bleeding, powdering, or cracking at high temperatures, which can lead to insulation failure or even thermal runaway. Therefore, high-quality potting compounds must undergo rigorous quality control processes—from sourcing high-purity raw materials to undergoing thousands of hours of high-temperature aging and thermal shock testing—to ensure stable physical and electrical performance throughout their entire life cycle.
As 800V high-voltage platforms and high-power fast-charging technologies become more widespread, the power density of power electronics continues to increase, deepening the reliance on underlying materials. Choosing rigorously validated, high-quality potting compounds with excellent rheological stability and anti-settling properties is not only an effective means of simplifying production processes and reducing hidden costs but also an essential path to ensuring the safe and long-term reliable operation of new energy and power systems.
