New Breakthroughs in Liquid Silicone Rubber for Textile Coating Applications

Hits: 328 img

With the continued growth of the outdoor industrial textile market, downstream sectors are imposing increasingly higher comprehensive performance requirements on functional fabrics. The shortcomings of traditional coating materials—such as insufficient weatherability and poor breathability—are being progressively addressed by new liquid silicone rubber materials.

In the production of outdoor protective clothing, high-end umbrella fabrics, tent fabrics, and similar products, coating-grade liquid silicone rubber is becoming the mainstream choice within the industry. Based on a low-viscosity two-component system, this material can be uniformly applied to various textile fiber surfaces using precision coating equipment, completing vulcanization at room or moderately elevated temperatures to form a continuous, elastic hydrophobic protective film on the fabric surface. Unlike traditional acrylic coatings, the liquid silicone rubber coating layer does not completely seal the microscopic pores between fabric fibers. While achieving efficient hydrophobicity, it retains the fabric's fundamental breathability, preventing the stuffy discomfort caused by completely non-breathable fabrics during prolonged outdoor activities.

From a practical performance perspective, fabrics treated with liquid silicone rubber coating can achieve water resistance ratings stably meeting high-level industry standards. In everyday scenarios such as rain exposure or accidental splashes, water droplets naturally roll off the fabric surface without penetrating inward. At the same time, thanks to the stable structure of silicone molecules, the coating exhibits excellent UV aging resistance. Even under prolonged direct sunlight exposure, the coating does not readily yellow, crack, or peel. Relevant test data show that fabrics treated with this material can withstand 50 or more washing cycles, with hydrophobic performance remaining above 90% of initial levels after repeated washing—significantly outperforming traditional coating materials.

Currently, this coating-grade liquid silicone rubber has achieved batch-scale application in numerous domestic textile fabric enterprises, covering multiple segments including outdoor sportswear, industrial weatherproof tarpaulins, and high-end leisure umbrellas. It provides stable and reliable material support for the functional upgrading of downstream textile products, while also driving the entire textile coating industry toward higher performance and longer service life.
